Ronde Barber is coming back for the 2011 season! The team just announced he has signed a one-year contract.

The cornerback is coming back for his 15th season with the Buccaneers. He is a five-time Pro-Bowler with 40 career interceptions and 26 sacks.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers announced today that they have re-signed CB Ronde Barber to a one-year deal.

“We’re excited that Ronde will continue to build on his Hall of Fame career in 2011,” said General Manager Mark Dominik.

“Last season, Ronde once again showed that he’s an invaluable professional and mentor to our young football team, both on and off the field. I’m also happy that our fans can continue to enjoy one of the Buccaneers’ all-time greats.”

Barber, who just completed his 14th season in the NFL, started all 16 games for the Buccaneers in 2010 as he ranked third on the team with 102 tackles, surpassing the 100-tackle plateau for the sixth time in his career. He also finished second on the team with three interceptions and first on the team with 16 passes defensed. Barber helped lead the NFL’s youngest team to a 10-6 record and also helped the pass defense rank in the Top 10 for the 12th time in his 14 years with the team.

The second-longest tenured player in Buccaneers history, Barber has played in 209 career games with 200 career starts including 183 consecutive, which surpassed Hall of Fame CB Dick LeBeau for the most consecutive starts by a cornerback in NFL history. His 183 consecutive starts are also the longest active streak by a defender and trail only Indianapolis Colts QB Peyton Manning (208) for the most consecutive games started among all active players. This season, Barber became the first player in NFL history to record 40 or more interceptions and 25 or more sacks in their career as he now has 40 career interceptions, the most in team history, and 26 sacks, the most by a cornerback in NFL history. His 1,260 tackles rank second in team history behind only LB Derrick Brooks and his 11 touchdowns on fumble/interception returns ranks tied for fourth in NFL history. The five-time Pro Bowler is also the only defensive back in the NFL since the merger (1970) to start each of his team’s games for 11 consecutive seasons.
